10 Billionth App Store Download Winner Hangs Up on Apple
The mother of the winner of the 10 Billionth App Store Download sweepstakes actually hung up the phone the first time Apple called her house to inform them of their good fortune.
“I thought it was a prank call,” said Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent, United Kingdom. “I said, ‘Thank you very much, I’m not interested’ and I hung up.”
Her daughters downloaded the 10 billionth application and told their mother that the call was not a prank. Davis then panicked and tried to call Apple back but the help desk wasn’t able to help her. She felt relieved when the company called back again after a few hours. She said that her daughters would probably have never forgiven her if things were not straightened out.
The application that was downloaded is the free app PaperGlider. It gave the Davis girls a $10,000 iTunes gift card.
Reflecting more on the incident, Davis said, “If it had been Steve Jobs I definitely would have thought it was a wind up.”
