13 dead, 26 wounded in Binghamton, NY shooting
At least 13 people were feared killed today and another 26 wounded when a gunman opened fire at an immigration services center in Binghamton, New York, ABC News reported.
The gunman, Jiverly Voong, 41, also known as Linh Phat Voong, held dozens of people hostage for several hours before shooting himself to death, police said.
Television footage showed the building surrounded by heavily-armed law enforcement officers taking cover behind vehicles. Police closed down nearby streets and locked down a high school and nursing home after the shooting began around 10:00 a.m.
According to authorities, the attacker used his car to barricade the back door of the American Civic Association before he went to the front of the building and started to execute people. Two handguns were recovered at the crime scene.
A few hours after the massacre began; hostages began exiting the building and police declared the gunman dead.
