168 killed in Iran plane crash

At least 168 people are feared dead after an Iranian passenger aircraft crashed in northwestern Iran on Wednesday.

Press TV said the Caspian Airlines plane was heading to the Armenian capital of Yerevan when it went down near the northern Iranian city of Qazvin.

The Russian-made Tupolev crashed about 16 minutes after takeoff, according to media reports. Some witnesses had reported that the aircraft was on fire in midair.

Local fire brigade officials were unable to find anyone alive at the crash site. The plane was carrying 153 passengers and 15 crew members.
