Aaron Carter Killed…On Twitter

Aaron_CarterAaron Carter has died, thankfully, only on Twitter.

Former teen heartthrob Carter became the latest celebrity to be killed on Twitter, as the social networking site was flooded with tweets on Thursday that the younger brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter died of a drug overdose.

Carter’s camp quickly shot down the death hoax, with manager Johnny Wright telling E! that his ward is alive. “Aaron Carter is alive and well at my compound in Orlando, rehearsing for a New Year’s show,” Wright said. Carter also took to Twitter to kill off the death hoax, reiterating what his manager said in a post early Friday. “This is the real Aaron Carter I know there’s a Hoax Going Around, But I’m Here, Alive & Well. At the compound Working on my mind & soul,” he said.

According to E!, the rumors started when an alleged friend of the 23-year-old “Crush on You” singer tweeted that “I can’t believe you’re gone.” The hoax instantly spread and soon after Carter’s “death” became a trending topic on Twitter.
