AFF Suzuki Cup: Malaysia beats Indonesia 3-0
Malaysia’s 3-0 victory over Indonesia in the first leg of the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup final on Sunday was marred by protests from angry Indonesian supporters, who claimed K. Rajagopal’s side unfairly won the match after fans in Kuala Lumpur’s Bukit Jalil National Stadium apparently distracted Indonesian players with laser pens.
It was the first time that the Reds and Whites played away from home in the tournament. The game was stopped for five minutes shortly after halftime when Indonesia’s netkeeper complained that bright lights were directed at him from laser pointers used by local fans. After a negotiation, the Indonesians got back to the pitch, but just 12 minutes after the restart, Alfred Riedl’s side conceded three goals.
A Safee Sali double and another strike from Mohamad Ashari put the Tigers firmly in the driver’s seat to win their first ever ASEAN tournament with the second leg still to be played in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Do you think the lasers used have something to do with Malaysia’s victory? Let us know in the comments section below this post.
