Africa Cup of Nations: Algeria vs. Egypt (Semifinals)
Africa Cup of Nations defending champion Egypt will meet their arch rival Algeria in the semi-final match Thursday, January 28.
These two teams have met in the qualifying games for the 2010 World Cup in Sudan in November where the Pharoahs were ousted by Algeria. Egypt may have lost their World Cup bid but they are happy to be in the CAF semifinals.
“We are eager to reach the final and win the cup in order to compensate the fans after our failure to make the World Cup,” said veteran defender Gomaa.
These two north-African sides will have to throw goals at each other in order to face either Ghana or Nigeria in the finals.
UPDATE: The Pharaohs kept alive their hopes of winning a third straight ANC title with a 4-0 win over Algeria, who had three players sent off. Egypt will face Ghana in the final after the Black Stars eliminated Nigeria 1-0 in the other match.
