Africa Cup of Nations Final: Egypt vs. Ghana
The African Nations Cup reaches its finale this evening (11 am ET) when defending champions Egypt face underdogs Ghana at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda.
The Pharaohs will be gunning for an exceptional third successive victory and seventh title overall. They are also aiming to stretch their unbeaten run in the tournament to 18 successive matches.
Egypt defeated an eight-man Algeria 4-0 in Benguela to set up a shot at a third successive crown while Ghana thumped Nigeria 1-0 to go to this stage.
The Black Stars, one of Australia’s three group opponents in this year’s World Cup, will be looking for their fourth trophy. They are in the final for the first time in 18 years.
UPDATE: Mohamed Naggy scored in the 85th minute to help Egypt beat Ghana 1-0 and secure its third straight title at the African Nations Cup. The 25-year-old striker netted with a fine curling shot from inside the penalty area to give his side a record seventh trophy in the continental tournament.
