African Cup of Nations: Cameroon vs. Gabon

Cameroon vs. Gabon: The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon begin their quest for the African Nations Cup title when they face Gabon in their Group D match in Lubango this afternoon.

The Lions, who are ranked 11th in the FIFA rankings, are clear favorites to win this match. But this is football and we have already seen some major shocks in this tournament.

Paul Le Guen’s side will be the more confident ahead of this clash, as they beat the same opponents twice in four days in September. Overall, these two teams have met 15 times since 1976. Cameroon triumphed 6 times, and the Black Panthers won only once, with 8 games ending in draws.

While the Lions boast stars like Samuel Eto’o, their opponents have Hull City striker Daniel Cousin—who is probably the best known Gabon player because of his Premier League connection.

The match kicks-off at 11:00 a.m. ET (17:00 CET).

UPDATE: The Black Panthers of Gabon shocked Cameroon in their ANC opener with a 1-0 victory. Cousin netted Gabon’s winner in the 17th minute after Cameroon’s Rigobert Song made a defensive error.
