African Cup of Nations: Mali vs. Malawi
Mali and Malawi are playing at Cabinda’s Chiazi Stadium, in a decisive match to reach the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations.
The Flames, seen as the weakest in Group A, recorded their first ever victory at an ANC finals when they thumped World Cup finalists Algeria 3-0 on Monday—and tonight’s match is perhaps the biggest game ever in Malawi’s history.
Malawi sits third the group standings and a stalemate is all they need to advance to the knockout stages. The Eagles of Mali meanwhile are at the bottom, meaning nothing but three points will hand the side a lifeline in the competition.
The match kicks-off at 11:00 a.m. ET (17:00 CET).
UPDATE: Mali defeated Malawi 3-1 but missed out on progressing to the quarterfinals as it lost 1-0 to Algeria last Thursday. Algeria and Angola both advanced to the final eight after both teams were held to a goalless draw.
