Amare Stoudemire to Join Star Free Agents “Summit”
Add Phoenix Suns power forward Amare Stoudemire to the list of possible free agents who are expected to consult each other before deciding where to go next season. Stoudemire said he plans to talk to LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and Joe Johnson in the coming days to ponder their future.
Stoudemire, who has played with the Suns throughout his 8-year career, is eligible to opt out of his contract with Phoenix and become a free agent starting July 1. He would receive $17 million if he decides to play out the final year of his contract with the Suns. The power forward is rumored to be joining the free agent market after the Suns failed anew in their quest for an NBA title. Suns coach Alvin Gentry said the team definitely wants Stoudemire back. “If you’re asking me, ‘Do we want him back?’ Yeah, we want him back.”
Earlier, Wade, who is expected to leave the Miami Heat, said he would consult James and Johnson before picking a team he would play for next season. The coming off season is touted to be the most lucrative in years with several tried and tested franchise players eligible to join free agency.
