American Idol: James Durbin Axed
James Durbin, in his own words, did things never seen before on “American Idol,” but all those were never enough to keep him from becoming the latest finalist to get eliminated from the popularity contest masquerading as a talent show.
The 22-year-old rocker from Santa Cruz, California, received the lowest number of votes among the four remaining finalists on Thursday to end his “American Idol” journey. Durbin wowed the judges on Wednesday with his performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” and The Clovers’ “Love Potion No.9,” but voters were apparently not convinced enough. Thursday’s elimination results left Durbin in tears as he was targeting to land at least a spot in the top three. “I did so much stuff that’s never been done on this show before,” he said. “I was really hoping to get there.”
Instead, he will be watching Haley Reinhart, Alania Rossville, and Scotty McCreery battle it out next week for a chance to get into the May 26 finale.
