“American Idol” Kicks Out Tim Urban

On the night “American Idol” made people cry with its “Idol Gives Back” charity event, ever-smiling Tim Urban was sent home. The 20-year-old Texan performed the Goo Goo Dolls’ “Better Days” on Tuesday, but failed to inspire the judges in an inspirational-themed performance night. Urban garnered the least votes from the bottom three, who included Casey James and Aaron Kelly. Host Ryan Seacrest advised Urban to “keep that smile,” eliciting a big grin from the singer.

Urban’s elimination reduced the number of finalists to six: James, Kelly, Siobhan Magnus, Michael Lynche, Lee Dewyze, and frontrunner Crystal Bowersox. The remaining finalists will again have a celebrity mentor this week in the person of country superstar Shania Twain.

American Idol’s “Idol Gives Back” featured several performances at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, where The Black Eyed Peas, Mary J. Blige, and Alicia Keys, among others, took the stage. The charity even, which has received $140 million since 2007, aims to help various groups including the United Nations Foundation.
