“American Idol” Sends Home Another Finalist

Singing “Love Will Bring You Back” in English and Spanish was not enough to help Karen Rodriguez earn a ticket back to “American Idol” as she became the latest finalist to be sent home on Thursday.

Rodriguez, a 21-year-old from New York, was given a chance to convince the judges to use their save option as she sang Mariah Carey’s “Hero.” However, her rendition was not enough to win each of the three judges over, making her the second finalist to be eliminated. Rodriguez, who sang Taylor Dayne’s 1990 hit “Love Will Bring You Back” on Wednesday’s performance night, was joined in the bottom three by Naima Adedapo and Haley Reinhart.

Adedapo and Reinhart had expected to land in the bottom three after their unimpressive version of Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” respectively, but were able to extend their stay on “Idol” thanks to a superior number of votes compared to that of Rodriguez’s. The Top 11, led by this week’s top performer Stefano Langone, will return next week for another round of performances.
