Angelina Jolie to Play Cleopatra

Angelina Jolie is set to become the Queen of the Nile. Publishers of the book “Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life,” confirmed that Jolie has been tapped to play the last Egyptian pharaoh.

Michael Pietsch of publishing house Little, Brown, which is set to release author Stacy Schiff’s book, said Jolie fits the role of Cleopatra to a tee. “Angelina Jolie radiates grace and power, exactly the qualities that Stacy Schiff finds in her biography of the most intriguing ruler who ever lived.”

Producer Scott Rudin was reported on Thursday to have acquired the rights to turn into film the “Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life.” Rudin was quoted as saying that he had Jolie in mind to play probably the most intriguing ruler in Egyptian history, if not the world. She is also often depicted in films and literature as a beautiful, but scheming seductress.

There is no word yet on who would play Cleopatra’s lover, Mark Anthony.
