Annie Lennox wears HIV Positive T-Shirt for SING campaign (video)

annie-lennox-hiv-positiveSinger Annie Lennox was awarded The 2009 Woman of Peace Award for her help to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS impact on women and children, especially in South Africa through her “SING” campaign. She has partnered with over 23 other female celebrities and musicians for the said movement.

Annie Lennox has been a supporter of several charities that help people suffering from and at risk of HIV and AIDS. She is currently the celebrity spokesperson for Friends of Treatment Action Campaign (FOTAC) .

Lennox together with Bono aired a special report from the frontline of the AIDS crisis for the American Idol charity fundraiser Idol Gives Back. During the report she wore a T-shirt that said “HIV Positive”. Annie also performed a song for the audience.

In a recent interview with the Guardian, Lennox talked about the SING campaign:
It’s the second anniversary of your HIV/Aids charity, SING. Last year you released a single. What are you doing this time?
We’re having an online auction. SING is not only about raising money, though. The other side, which is just as important, is about keeping the issue on the table. We talk about swine flu openly, we talk about bird flu openly, and yet when it comes to HIV, it’s a completely different story. The general population still thinks HIV is something that came in the 80s and went away, or that it only affects the gay population or intravenous drug users. To think that 1,000 people die of this every day in South Africa is such an abstract thought because we don’t hear about them.
