Antonio Margarito’s Camp Sorry for Mocking Freddie Roach

antonio_margaritoAntonio Margarito and his handlers are becoming expert apologists. Several months after saying sorry for using illegal handwrapping in a fight against Shane Mosley, the Margarito camp has again found itself at the receiving end of criticism for apparently mocking in a video interview¬†Manny Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach’s Parkinson’s disease.

In a press conference on Wednesday, trainer Robert Garcia apologized for the video, where Margarito and another boxer, Brandon Rios, appear to be making fun of Roach and his stuttering due to Parkinson’s. In the video, Maragarito is first shown to be making a face to impersonate Roach, then the camera pans to Rios, who stutters as he mentions Pacquiao’s name. The video, which was posted by Elie Seckbach of sports web site FanHouse, has since been edited to remove Rios’ part.

Roach has called the Margarito camp “disrespectful” and refused to be appeased despite the apology. “They’re so disrespectful to me…I’m not going to bother Manny Pacquiao with that. Manny doesn’t hate anybody and so forth, but I do hate those guys,” Roach said.
Pacquiao and Margarito will clash on Saturday at the Cowboys Stadium in a junior-middleweight title bout.
