Apple in Talks with Music Labels for Unlimited Downloads
Reports indicate that Apple is currently negotiating with music record companies to allow music buyers to download their songs as many times as they want to multiple Apple devices linked to a single iTunes account.
Citing sources that asked to be anonymous, as the deal is still considered private, Bloomberg said that the Cupertino-based company is negotiating with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group Corporation and EMI Group Limited. A midyear announcement is expected if the negotiation ends in an agreement.
The requested feature will allow users to fire up the songs from either their iPod, iPhone or iPad. This move is analyzed to be in response to the increasing popularity of online services such as Pandora, which does not sell music but streams them from the Web – whatever device the listener is using.
Another way to look at the multiple download being negotiated is that it will allow backup of the songs just in case the original copy gets damaged or lost.
