Apple Restricts Location-Based Ad-Generating Applications
Apple issued a message to developers that they can no longer develop applications for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad that use location-based services with the aim of bringing advertisements.
The complete message that was posted Thursday, February 4, at the iPhone Dev Center’s News and Announcements blog is as follows:
“If you build your application with features based on a user’s location, make sure these features provide beneficial information. If your app uses location-based information primarily to enable mobile advertisers to deliver targeted ads based on a user’s location, your app will be returned to you by the App Store Review Team for modification before it can be posted to the App Store.”
It may seem that Apple might be doing something that will be beneficial to the gadget owners. Imagine what it would be like to be doing something important with your device and you keep getting disturbed by ads from and for a nearby establishment.
However, it is possible that Apple might be protecting also itself. It was found out that the company filed an application patent that does what exactly they’re prohibiting developers to do.
