‘As The World Turns’ Cancelled by CBS
After an astounding 54 years of being on air, the popular American television daytime drama As The World Turns will soon be facing its turn to get axed by CBS. Its last episode is set to be broadcast middle of September next year, as announced by network executives, who understandably expressed their disappointment in letting go of the long-running series, the latest soap opera to fall victim to television viewers’ recent inclination towards other genres.
Barbara Bloom, CBS senior vice president of daytime programming, said that “it’s extremely difficult to say goodbye,” but she reveled in “the true legacy” that As the World Turns, ill leave in the history of American television: “the fictional characters and stories of a small Midwest town that resonated every day with millions of viewers over multiple generations, becoming a treasured daytime institution in the process.”
Notable alumni of As the World Turns include Julianne Moore, James Earl Jones, Courtney Cox, Jason Biggs, Amanda Seyfried, Marisa Tomei, Meg Ryan and Lea Salonga.
