Australian Open 2010: Maria Sharapova exits in the first round
Maria Sharapova, former women’s number 1 tennis player, made an early first round exit in her Australian Open match against fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko. Kirilenko made the upset winning the first and third sets [7-6 , 3-6, 6-4] to advance into the second round.
Sharapova, 14th seed coming in this year, made her comeback after missing last year’s tournament due to a right shoulder surgery. She won the Australian Open women’s singles title in 2008.
“I could be disappointed or I could just take it as it is and just go back on the court and just keep working,” Sharapova said. “I choose option two. A bad day’s not going to stop me from doing what I love. I’ll be back here on a Saturday of the second week, so you watch.”
