Avatar Exits Top Ten
Mega-blockbuster Avatar finally left the Top Ten this weekend after slipping to number 11.
The new world highest grossing film of all time raked in 2 million dollars this weekend, a drop of 50%. Its overall sales now stand at 2.68 billion dollars with the overseas shares at 1.94 billion dollars.
Staying at the top 10 for 101 days, the 14 weekends is already impressive. Other notable films to have stayed long in the top ten are Academy Award Best Pictures Chicago and Titanic.
Chicago lasted 16 consecutive weekends. However, it only entered the top ten on its second weekend and never reached the number 1 spot.
Former world highest grossing film of all time Titanic lasted 26 weekends, that’s half the year, at the top ten, with the first 15 weekends at the gold spot. That’s the record for most number of consecutive weekends at number one spot. It bowed down to Lost in Space on the 16th week.
Avatar lasted 7 weekends at number 1 position.
However, the film E.T. holds the records for most number of weekends at the top ten – which is at 44 and the most number of consecutive weekends at the top ten – which is at 35. It also holds the record for most number of weekends at number one at 16. It slipped in and out of the number one spot 4 times.
