Barbara Walters to Undergo Heart Surgery
Iconic television host Barbara Walters announced that she will undergo heart surgery so that a faulty heart valve can be replaced.
She made the announcement Monday, May 10, from the television show The View.
Walters, 80, revealed that an echocardiogram showed that her valves were “getting tighter and smaller.”
The operation will be conducted later this week. This is to coincide with the show’s summer hiatus which will give the host recovery time until September.
The host, who conducted specials interviewing high profile personalities, admitted that she have known her condition for several months now. She said that she thought of revealing it when the operation is already near.
“I felt it best not to talk about it too far in advance,” Walters said.
Walters is the first female co-anchor of a network evening news, working with Harry Reasoner on the ABC Evening News. She also previously hosted the programs Today and 20/20.
