The BCS National Championship Game is the last and final bowl game of the annual Bowl Championship Series (BCS). The game is the BCS organizer’s way to determine the national champion of the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly known as NCAA Division I-A).

As always, the 2 football teams who participate in this game are the top 2 highest-ranked teams according to the BCS standings after the regular college football season.

The game was initially rotated among the four participating bowl games, namely: Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. But In 2006, The National Championship Game became a separate event played a week after January 1 of each year.
