Premier League: Blackburn Rovers vs. Manchester City

The Blackburn Rovers begin another season in the English Premier League against Manchester City later this afternoon.

Manchester has bought several expensive players this summer, so many are tipping them to break the monopoly of the league’s big four. And Mark Hughes has warned that the team will continue to spend until they break into the English elite.

Unfortunately, Ewood Park is not exactly a happy hunting ground for City and their away form last season was dreadful to say the least.

The Rovers will be aiming to improve on last season’s average home record that yielded just six wins. But some high-profile departures have plagued Sam Allardyce’s side, including experienced veterans Andre Ooijer and the now retired Tugay Kerimoglu.

Game time is 3:00 p.m. London (10:00 a.m. ET).

UPDATE: Manchester City opened the season with a 2-0 victory against the Rovers. Emmanuel Adebayor scored the first goal while Stephen Ireland wrapped things up for the visitors in stoppage time.
