Bristol Palin breaks up with Levi Johnston

Levi Johnston and Bristol Palin, the 18 year old daughter of Gov. Sarah Palin, have broken off their engagement, reported on Wednesday.

A source close to the couple confirmed that the split occurred a few weeks ago.

“It kind of just happened,” the source said. “I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp.”

Bristol spoke with FOX News in February and told Greta Van Susteren that she and Levi, 19, expected to get married after they completed high school. In the interview, she also denied that her mother’s anti-abortion views were the reason she went ahead with the pregnancy.

Bristol continues to attend Wasilla High School in her native Alaska and is said to be thinking about attending college in the fall. Her pregnancy made headlines last summer just days after Sen. John McCain chose her mother as his running mate for the Republican presidential ticket.
