Browns receiver Donte Stallworth involved in fatal accident

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth has been questioned by police in Miami in connection with the death of a pedestrian.

According to the Miami Herald, Stallworth, 28, was cooperating with police and has not yet been charged. Police said the accident happened on the McArthur Causeway Saturday morning.

Authorities have identified the victim as Mario Reyes, 59, believed to have worked at a nearby construction site. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

It’s not clear if the pedestrian was crossing the street legally or if Stallworth violated any traffic laws.

Stallworth has previously played with the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots. The seven-year veteran was selected by the Saints with the 13th overall selection of the 2002 NFL Draft.

He signed a seven-year, $35 million contract with the Browns as a free agent before last season but hardly played because he was injured. He finished with career lows in receptions (17) and yards (170).
