Bullock Wants No Part in Oil Spill Cleanup Ad
Sandra Bullock has asked producers of a public service announcement for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill cleanup drive to remove her parts in the video after she discovered that money from energy giant BP may be behind the campaign.
Bullock, who appears in the video with other celebrities, decided to pull out her support after discovering that America’s Wetland Foundation, partner of PSA producer Women of the Storm, has BP as one of its financial backers. An exploded BP underwater oil well caused the Gulf oil spill, which is now the worst of its kind in the history of the United States.
A rep for Bullock confirmed the pullout request, saying that “at no time was she made aware that any organization, oil company or otherwise had influence over Women of the Storm or its message. We have immediately asked for her participation in the PSA be removed until the facts can be determined.”
Women of the Storm has denied that the PSA was produced with the help of BP and other oil companies, adding that America’s Wetland Foundation provided only information used in the campaign.
