‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Sets New First Day Sales Record
The latest installment of a third-person first shooter video game franchise has broken the record for first day sales posted by its predecessor last year.
Call of Duty: Black Ops posted 360 million dollars in its first day sales Thursday, November 11, after 5.6 million units were sold in the United States and the United Kingdom. The game is the first in the franchise with Cold War setting.
The sales broke the record posted by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year which was at 310 million dollars at 4.7 million units.
Publisher Activision said that Black Ops is also on the way of breaking Modern Warfare 2‘s five-day global sales records of 550 million dollars.
“There has never been another entertainment franchise that has set opening day records for two consecutive years,” said Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision in a statement.
Activision will be releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 next year. Another record-breaker in the making maybe?
