Cameron Douglas Sentenced 5 Years

Michael Douglas’ son Cameron has been given a five-year jail term for his involvement in a conspiracy to distribute drugs. U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said that Cameron Douglas‘ sentencing “may well be his last chance” to turn his back on heroin, with which the 31-year-old actor admitted to using since he was 13.

Cameron’s Academy Award-winning father and mother Diandra were at hand as he took full responsibility for what has happened to him. “I’d like to apologize to my family and my loved ones for putting them through this nightmare of my making,” he said before he was sentenced.

Cameron was arrested in July last year at the Gansevoort Hotel with .23 kilograms of methamphetamine. He pleaded guilty to dealing drugs in January. His charge carried a minimum of ten years in prison, but he was given only half of it after he reportedly agreed to cooperate with an ongoing investigation. He was also ordered to forfeit $300,000 of his $500,000 declared net worth.

Earlier, the judge read more 30 letters from Cameron’s friends and family, asking for leniency. Among those who expressed support for the scion of the prominent Douglas clan were Cameron’s step mother Catherine Zeta-Jones and family friend Pat Riley.
