Capt. Richard Phillips returns home

The captain of the American merchant ship held hostage by Somali pirates has arrived back home in the United States Friday.

Capt. Richard Phillips of Maersk Alabama arrived in Vermont days after US Navy Seals shot dead three pirates and rescued him from a lifeboat off the coast of Somalia.

Philips was immediately greeted by family and friends. Insisting he was no hero, he waved to the delighted crowd of well-wishers, reporters and TV crews at Burlington International Airport.

The first people I want to thank are the Seals,” he said. “They are the superheroes, they are the titans. They are impossible men doing an impossible job, and they did the impossible with me.”

He also commended his crew who fought off their heavily-armed attackers. “My crew did an excellent job and I am so proud that they are home.”
