Carling Cup: Aston Villa vs. Blackburn Rovers

Aston Villa vs. Blackburn Rovers : The first leg of the Carling Cup (League Cup) semi-final begins tonight when the Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa collide at Ewood Park.

Sam Allardyce’s side have not won since beating Chelsea in the Cup last month, a sequence of eight matches in all competitions, and their current league record stands at nine games without a win.

The Englishman also has several injury worries ahead of the match, but Jason Roberts is the only confirmed casualty as he misses out through a knee problem.

The Carling Cup was the last major title either team won. In 2002, Blackburn beat Tottenham in their first and only final in the tournament. Six years earlier, the Villains had defeated Leeds United to win the crown for the fifth time in their seventh championship.

The match kicks-off at 20:00 UK (15:00 ET).

UPDATE: The Villains moved a step closer to Wembley by beating Blackburn 1-0 in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final, thanks to James Milner’s goal in the 23rd minute.
