Carling Cup: Chelsea vs. Blackburn Rovers

The Blues travel to Ewood Park to face Sam Allardyce’s side for their Carling Cup (League Cup) quarter-final with both teams looking to move a step closer to Wembley.

The Blue and Whites started the season badly, but gradually are finding their form. For the West Londoners, they are currently pursuing an exceptional quadruple and while this tournament will certainly not be at the top of the scheme, a quarter-final tie with Blackburn symbolize a great chance of development.

The Rovers will be without top scorer David Dunn after sustaining a calf injury in their match against Stoke City on Saturday. Keith Andrews also has a calf problem and is doubtful for tonight’s clash.

Neil McDonald, Blackburn’s assistant boss, will take charge again as Allardyce continues his recovery from minor heart operation.

The match kicks-off at 20:00 GMT.

UPDATE: Two penalty saves by Paul Robinson has sent Blackburn into the semi-finals of the tournament with a 4-3 shootout victory over Chelsea. The Rovers will now meet Aston Villa for the right to go to Wembley.
