Cate Blanchett suffers head injury

Actress Cate Blanchett arrives on the red carpet for The 80th Annual Academy Awards held at the Kodak Theater on February 24, 2008 in Hollywood, CaliforniaCate Blanchett suffered a head injury when she was hit by a prop on stage during a live performance of A Streetcar Named Desire in Sydney, Australia on Wednesday.

The 40-year-old actress, who was playing the lead role of Blanche DuBois, was accidentally hit on the head with a radio by an actor playing Stanley Kowalski. According to an audience member, Blanchett had blood streaming down the back of her head and neck.

The audience were told there were technical difficulties and were asked to leave the Sydney Theatre Company after the said incident.

“Everyone is fine.” Tim McKeogh, the theatre’s spokesman said. “Cate was injured, she got a bump on the head, but we’re confident she will be on stage.”
