<p>It’s no real surprise to anyone that <strong>Playboy</strong> magazine does well when a controversial celebrity graces its cover. But apparently no one cares to grab a copy of the much-talked about issue of the mag which centers on <strong>Lindsay Lohan</strong>&#8216;s nude spread.</p>
<p>In recent years, obsession with the likes of Sharon Stone, Drew Barrymore, Denise Richards and Charlize Theron had guaranteed rising sales. So, what happened?</p>
<p>“I&#8217;m not surprised at all. Despite Playboy&#8217;s hype, there was nothing particularly shocking or new about this shoot. While these shots may have been slightly closer to full frontal than Lindsay&#8217;s previous shots, they weren&#8217;t actually full frontal; there was also nothing particularly new about Lindsay dressing up as <strong>Marilyn Monroe</strong>,” <a href="http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2011/12/17/lindsay-lohans-playboy-debut-falls-flat-with-consumers-retailers-say/" target="_blank">says</a> Lux Alptraum, editor of Fleshbot.com.</p>
<p>“I thought the shots were really boring and didn&#8217;t really live up to the promises Playboy had made,&#8221; Alptraum added. &#8220;If they&#8217;d actually gotten full frontal shots of Lindsay, or come up with a fresher, more interesting concept, there might have been more demand for the photos.”</p>
<p>Did LiLo&#8217;s leaked spread hurt the magazine’s sales?</p>
<p>Probably. But in an exclusive interview with E! News <strong>Hugh Hefner</strong> himself admitted that he originally had doubts about including the 25-year-old actress in the Bunnymag and putting her on the cover. The pictorial was <a href="http://dailycontributor.com/lindsay-lohan-playboy-cover-leaked/22934/" target="_blank">leaked</a> online last week after a hacker found the photos on a shared computer server.</p>
<p>And now that the magazine has hit the newsstands with a backlash, it appears LiLo won’t be giving any interviews about the spread.</p>

<p><strong>GAME OF THRONES</strong> is coming to HBO Asia starting August 28 and you should not dare miss it. I highly recommend this series not just because of the actors but also because of the work that the entire team had put on in making this 10-part series a success. The acting, editing, and special effects were superb&#8211;combined with the elements of war, power, and lust.</p>
<p>GAME OF THRONES <em> </em>has all the elements that can hook viewers and make them beg for the release of a second season as soon as possible. If you haven&#8217;t seen it yet, then the wait is almost over. And if you&#8217;re a fan of the book, you&#8217;ll never be disappointed&#8230; it will be well worth it. </p>

<p><strong>Executive Producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss on bringing George R.R. Martin’s books to the screen:</strong></p>
<p>In winter 2006, David Benioff began reading the book series A Song of Ice and Fire. He recalls, “I got completely hooked and a few hundred pages later, I called Dan [D.B. Weiss], who has been my friend for about 15 years and said, ‘Tell me if I’m completely crazy but I’m in the middle of this book called A Game of Thrones and I think it’s the best thing I’ve read in as long as I can remember’.”</p>
<p>Weiss adds that he also began reading the series and “two and a half days later, I was done with a 900-page book, which is probably the first time I had done that since I was 12.”</p>
<p>Both are writers themselves, which allowed a special appreciation for the scale of Martin’s achievement. Benioff’s credits include the films The Kite Runner, Troy and Brothers and the novel City of Thieves, a New York Times bestseller that has been translated into 35 languages, as well as the novel The 25th Hour, which he adapted for the Spike Lee feature film of the same name. Weiss has written screen adaptations of the novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, the videogame Halo and Neil Strauss’ memoir The Game, and wrote the novel Lucky Wander Boy.</p>
<p>Weiss explains, “Game of Thrones is set in a fantasy kingdom called Westeros, a place that is like our world in many ways and unlike our world in many other ways. It’s about the struggle for the Iron Throne, which is the seat of power in this kingdom.”</p>
<p>Benioff says, “Fantasy is one of the most successful genres in the history of storytelling, but no one’s ever done it the HBO way, where the focus is on character and psychology rather than spectacle. Knowing the essential shape of the entire series from the beginning is an incredible luxury for us, as adapters of the material.”</p>
<p>Benioff describes the biggest lure of the book series as “a story that’s so rich and has so many characters, different viewpoints and narratives all woven together with incredible expertise. I think you admire it even more as a writer because you know how hard it is to do, and George R.R. Martin is a master at storytelling. It was such an intricate tapestry that we couldn’t imagine mutilating it to make it into a feature script, which would involve cutting 90% of his characters and stories. The only way that we could see doing it was as a series, and really, the only place we could see doing it properly was HBO.”</p>

<p>A global Internet company which offers an extensive selection of accommodation places located all over the world to travelers, either on business or pleasure trip, has now established a presence in the <strong>Philippines</strong>.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.wimdu.com/" target="_blank"><strong>Wimdu</strong></a>, which has been launched in 65 countries, has an online listing of accommodation places or “hosts” in the Philippines available to a foreign business traveler or a vacationing tourist. Its online list is still open to would-be host.</p>
<p>At the same time, the company’s website could be accessed by Filipino travelers seeking places to stay abroad other than the usual or big hotels in cities. The company offers unique places like homes of local residents or a room in a luxurious villa to travelers wanting to experience other cultures and cities in a whole new way.</p>
<p>The business model of Wimdu, which is backed by Rocket Internet GmbH of Germany, one of the world’s largest Internet start-up incubators, is to match travelers with accommodation places other than the standard or big hotels and which offer rates ranging from the affordable to the pricey.</p>
<p>Thus, a traveler, a group of students or a vacationing family can choose either an apartment in Hong Kong, a castle in Germany, a loft in Seoul or a villa in Phuket as well as from other collection of accommodation units that suit their needs and budget.</p>
<p>Besides the wide and unique range of places to choose from and check in, Wimdu-listed properties, including those in the Philippines, could be as much as 50 percent cheaper than the daily rates of standard hotels.</p>
<p>Wimdu also lists high class dwellings but still travelers can make substantial savings compared to hotels because of the discounts obtained by the company through its long term bookings with property owners.</p>
<p>Besides the travel market, Wimdu deals with accommodation companies or property owners who are brought into its global network of listed spaces for short or long term lease.</p>
<p>The company seeks owners of condominiums, residences, inns, condotels, small standard hotels (less than 20 rooms), pension houses or even dormitories to join its global network by registering their spaces in its website and become future hosts to these travelers. Being on Wimdu’s online list is free of charge.</p>
<p>These property owners earn from rentals or leases and their properties or units are easily accessed by the growing global community of travelers who book through Wimdu’s Internet site.</p>
<p>Wimdu said that listed places are visited by their local staff to check on the amenities as well as to ensure that the unit or surroundings are safe for travelers.</p>
<p>The Wimdu concept is to cater to guests wanting something unique – a home away from home, a cultural experience, a real plunge into the host’s country.</p>
<p>“He is not happy staying in large hotels where he is detached from the locals. Yet, our guest also wants the ease of booking a large hotel can offer. Wimdu then becomes the avenue to fulfil this desire. With just a few clicks, a cozy place can be found, booked, and the host notified for confirmation,” Wimdu said.</p>
<p>Wimdu is the latest major venture of Rocket Internet, which follows in the footsteps of Groupon International (deals, discounts and coupons), Zalando (Europe’s largest online shoe retailer), and eBay Europe (buy and sell).</p>
<p>It was founded by German brothers Marc and Oliver Samwer, whose goal is for Wimdu to be in every country.</p>

<p>Being a longtime blogger and online publisher, I have many friends who are freelance writers. The Desire S is the upgraded successor to the HTC Desire smartphone. Crafted with the new aluminum unibody  design matched with an Android OS with HTC Sense, the new Desire S is now ready to compete with other smartphones in the Philippine market today.</p>
<p>The HTC Desire S seems to be a pretty solid competitor with its capabilities and technical specifications. It boasts a 3.7-inch touchscreen display, 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255, 768MB of RAM, 720p HD video-capability, 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and autofocus, a 1.3 megapixel front-facing image taker, and a 1450mAh battery.</p>
<p>“We have taken the multi award-winning smartphone HTC Desire and made it  even better,” said Jack Tong, Vice President, HTC Asia Pacific. “With a  stronger and slimmer unibody design, a heightened sense of  intelligence, speed and clarity, the HTC Desire S integrates the latest  HTC Sense experience to bring a new level of simplicity, innovation and  delight to HTC customers.”</p>

<p><strong>Sony Ericsson</strong> announced on Wednesday, March 29, that its flagship smartphone, the <strong>Xperia™ arc</strong>, and the new <strong>Xperia™ neo</strong> will hit the local stores nationwide this summer. The <strong>Xperia™ arc</strong> will be available starting April while the <strong>Xperia™ neo</strong> is expected to arrive on May.</p>
<p>Specially marked kits of the Xperia™ arc will come with the AN-400 Sony Ericsson car charger until the end of the month.  Both Xperia™ smartphones will also be released with an HD game promotion, where customers can choose three out of ten HD game titles to download until June 30, 2011.   Some of the exciting HD game choices include Asphalt 5, Tom Clancy’s HAWX, Assasin’s Creed and Real Football 2011.</p>
<p>Both the Xperia™ arc and Xperia™ neo run on the latest Android OS for smartphones, <strong>Gingerbread</strong>, and promise a faster, more responsive and smoother smartphone experience.   For one, the system actively manages open applications, to maximize performance and battery life.  Aside from Google Mobile services, users also have about 150,000 free apps to choose from in the Android Market.</p>
<p><strong>Features</strong></p>
<p>These new smartphones are equipped with Sony technology such as Exmor R™ and Mobile BRAVIA Engine™ and Sony Ericsson User Experience Platform (UXP).</p>
<p>Some of the features of the The Xperia™ arc include an extra-wide 4.2-inch Reality Display, a multi-touch scratch-resistant mineral glass display.  It is very slim with just 8.7mm at its slimmest part and weighs only 117 grams.It  has an 8.1-megapixel camera with auto focus, LED flash, f/2.4 aperture lens, and can videos in HD at 720p.</p>
<p>The Xperia™ neo also has an 8.1-megapixel camera, LED flash, f/2.4  aperture lens and HD video recording and playback capability.  The HDMI  connector easily links to one’s HD TV for larger than life viewing.  Pan  and zoom through the WebKit browser.   The Xperia™ neo also carries a  GreenHeart™ headset and charger made from recycled plastics.</p>

<p>The Xperia™ arc has a suggested retail price of <strong>Php 29,990</strong> and is available in Midnight Blue and Misty Silver while the <strong>Xperia™ neo</strong><span> is at </span><strong>Php 22,750.</strong></p>
