Manny Pacquiao is $11 million richer

After beating Oscar De La Hoya in the Dream Match (nightmare for the Golden Boy), Manny Pacquiao can sit back, relax and start counting his earnings from that lopsided fight in Las Vegas.
Pay-per-view (PPV) figures indicate that Pacman is now richer by $11.2 million.
That amount, which exceeds his guaranteed prize, is the minimum that Pacquiao will get. He stands to earn more from his share of live gate receipts and merchandise sales from the Dec. 6 match at the MGM Grand.

Dallas Stars’ Sean Avery suspended

Sean Avery has always been known to be an annoying presence in the NHL. His attitude in the locker room is known to make teams want to get rid of him. But of all the spiteful comments and other antics he pulled on the way to becoming the biggest pest in hockey, never had he gone so far that the NHL suspended him–until Tuesday.

Armstrong to Race in 2009 Tour de France

Lance Armstrong confirmed Monday that he would ride in the 2009 Tour de France.
The seven-time Tour champion made the announcement on his Web site from Tenerife in the Canary Islands, where he is training with Team Astana.

According to Washington Post, Armstrong acknowledged his body might not perform at the same level it did when he last won the Tour in 2005.
“If you’ve been away for three or four years, it would be silly for anybody to think I could pick up where I left off,” Armstrong said in a telephone …

Giants receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot at nightclub

New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, accidentally shot himself in the leg at a night club Friday night, FOXSports.com reported.
Burress, 31, spent the evening in the hospital with the injuries, which aren’t life threatening, the Web site said.
A spokesman for the Giants on Saturday told PA SportsTicker that the team had no comment, although they acknowledged they are aware there was an incident.
Burress had already been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Washington Redskins after aggravating a hamstring injury last week in the game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Nadal and Federer to participate in 2009 Qatar Open

World’s top two players, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will unlock the 2009 ATP season by playing at the Qatar Open.
Qatar tennis federation president Nasser al-Kholiafi says Andy Murray and Andy Roddick will also take part in the hard-court tournament, which starts Jan. 5.
The competition in Doha is one of three to start the 2009 tennis season, along with the Brisbane International in Australia, and the Chennai Open in India.

Dwight Howard scored 26 points and added 14 rebounds to help the Orlando Magic in a 105-90 victory over the Washington Wizards at the Verizon Center.

Middlesex postpones India arrival after Mumbai attacks

LONDON: Cricket’s Middlesex captain Shaun Udal has said the English county would not be going to Mumbai as planned after the terror attacks hit the Indian city.
The team were due to fly to Mumbai on Thursday for the inaugural Twenty20 Champions League but former England off-spinner Udal told Sky Sports: “All we know is our flight has been cancelled in the morning.”

FC Barcelona Beats Sporting Lisbon

FC Barcelona locked their way to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as winners of Group C after beating Sporting Lisbon 5-2.
With the two teams having already qualified for the knockout stage, unbeaten Barca took their points tally to 13 with one game still to play, four points ahead of the Lisbon team.
