Celtic Acquires Robbie Keane
Robbie Keane will be wearing a Celtic uniform for the remainder of the football season. Celtic acquired the Irish captain from the Tottenham Hotspur in a loan deal right on transfer deadline. Keane, who has yielded his starting position in Tottenham to Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe, is expected to play first-team football at Celtic Park.
Keane’s decision to move to the Scottish Premiere League club, at least temporarily, was aggravated after the Hotspur signed Eidur Gudjohensen. Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said the transfer was for the best of everyone.
Aside from Keane, the Spurs also released Alan Hutton on loan to Sunderland. The Celtic-Tottenham deal was one of the highlights on transfer deadline, which also saw Manchester City getting the services of Adam Johnson. Reports said Johnson was offered about $ 9.5 million for the transfer, an amount that is much lower than what big-name players received in the past. Analysts blamed the economic recession for the stinginess of England’s top clubs this year.
