UEFA Champions League: Liverpool vs. Lyon
Liverpool will be looking to recover from their recent loss against Sunderland as they welcome French side Olympique Lyonnais to Anfield this evening.
Saturday’s defeat at the Stadium of Light proved just how valuable Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are to Rafa Benítez’s side.
The pair are struggling to return from injuries following last week’s World Cup qualifiers. Gerrard has trained with the first team squad today, but Torres still looks a major doubt for this game.
Both teams enter the match on the back of the domestic defeats but the Reds are in much more difficult situation than Claude Puel’s side. The boys from Anfield have lost their last 3 games in all competitions, while Lyon have 2 wins out of 2 in the Champions League and are on top of Group E.
The match kicks-off at 20:45 CET (2:45 p.m. ET).
UPDATE: Two Lyon substitutes hit the net to give the French side a 2-1 victory over Liverpool. With four straight defeats, the Reds now face a colossal task in their quest to qualify for the UEFA Champions League knock-out stages.
