Champions League Quarterfinal Draw: Man U to Face Chelsea

A rematch of the 2008 Champions League final is in the offing for this year’s quarterfinals after three-time winner Manchester United was drawn against fellow English giant Chelsea on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.

Chelsea, which has yet to win the Champions League, will host United at Stamford Bridge for the first leg on April 6, while the Red Devils get home advantage in the return leg at Old Trafford on April 12. Chelsea, which lost in a penalty shootout when it clashed with United in the 2008 final, defeated Copenhagen in the previous round while Man U survived Marseille. United strike Javier Hernandez said they expect the Stamford Bridge clash to be extremely difficult. For the record, the Red Devils have not won at the Blues’ home pitch since 2002, the latest loss coming earlier this month in a Premier League match.

Meanwhile, defending champion Inter Milan was drawn against German side Schalke 04, while 2010 semifinalist Barcelona is set to face 2009 UEFA Cup champion Shakhtar Donetsk. The fourth quarterfinal pairing features Spanish giant Real Madrid against Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur.
