Carling Cup: Chelsea vs. Bolton Wanderers

The Blues have been on excellent form at home this season, winning all eight of their home games in all competitions. But Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti will make some changes to his lineup when his side takes on Bolton Wanderers in tonight’s Carling Cup (League Cup) fourth round.

All his star players are on the sidelines including John Terry, Petr Cech, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka.

Lampard has now scored three times in his last two matches, and Drogba also scored in his last two games.

With the west Londoners involved in the Champions League and with most of the squad expected to play in next year’s World Cup, Ancelotti has said that he will have to pace his players.

“If I have a chance to rest players, especially those who play in their national teams, it’s better for everyone,” The Mirror quoted the Italian as saying.

The Carling Cup is seen by several big clubs as a lower priority than other tournaments. Many of the top English sides have used the competition to give young players valuable big-game experience.

The match kicks-off at 19:45 GMT (3:45 pm ET).

UPDATE: Goals from Salomon Kalou, Florent Malouda, Deco and Didier Drogba put Chelsea into the final eight of the tournament.
