‘Chemical Ali’ Executed
Ali Hassan al-Majid, cousin of Saddam Hussein, has been executed in Iraq on Monday–a week after he was sentenced for crimes against humanity.
Al-Majid, who is also known as ‘Chemical Ali‘, received his fourth death sentence last week, for the gas attacks of Kurds in the Iraqi village of Halabja that killed more than 5,000 in 1988.
Iraq’s government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said that ‘Chemical Ali’ was executed by hanging until death.
Ali Hassan Abd al-Majid al-Tikritieh was a former Ba’athist Iraqi Defense Minister, Interior Minister, military commander and chief of the Iraqi Intelligence Service. He was also the governor of occupied Kuwait during the Gulf War.
