China Fumes Anew with Obama-Dalai Lama Meeting
China said that the meeting would further hurt the Sino-US relations vowing to go ahead with the planned sanctions against American companies who will sell arms to Taiwan.
“If that comes to pass, then China will be strongly opposed as always,” said Zhu Weiquin, a Chinese Vice Minister. He further said that it “would be totally at odds with international accepted practices.”
“From our perspective, we feel the role of the United States is to facilitate a just and honest dialogue between the Dalai Lama’s envoys and the government of China,” said Thubten Samphel, a spokesman to the exiled Tibet Buddhist leader. He believes then that given that kind of role, there shouldn’t be any problem with His Holiness from meeting the most powerful man on the planet.
