Chris Brown charged with two felonies

R&B singer Chris Brown has been charged with two felonies following an alleged attack on his pop star girlfriend Rihanna last month, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced on Thursday.

These charges come approximately one month after Rihanna was found bruised and bloodied following the cancellation of the performers’ appearances at the Grammy Awards.

Brown is charged with felony assault and making criminal threats. If convicted, the possible sentence ranges anywhere from probation to almost five years in prison, according to prosecutors.

The proceedings lasted for only a few minutes as the arraignment was postponed until April 6.

According to ABC News, the 19-year-old singer provided the judge with one-word answers and gravely nodded when told he must not “annoy, harass, molest, threaten or use force or violence against anyone” between now and April 6.

Rihanna was not present at the hearing. Her attorney Donald Etra said, “Rihanna opposes a ‘stay away’ order and requested that no such order be issued.”
