Church blesses mobiles phones, laptops
A vicar surprised everyone when he blessed the high-tech gadgets of city workers in London, as part of a 21st-century upgrade of Plow Monday.
The Reverend David Parrott yesterday blessed a pile of laptops and mobile phones on the altar of St. Lawrence Jewry church, the Times of London reports.
Members of the congregation took out their gadgets and Rev. Parrott recited a blessing prayer over them. He is said to have uttered the line: “May our tongues be gentle, our emails be simple and our websites be accessible.”
Plow Monday is a tradition dating back to medieval times in which, people in villages would bring the tools of their trade such as farming implements to be blessed on the first Monday after they return to work following Christmas.
