Comedy Central Pulling Out ‘Daily Show,’ ‘Colbert Report’ from Hulu
Frequent visitors to video streaming Web site Hulu will no longer get their daily those of two popular Comedy Central shows starting next week. Hulu said in an announcement that it will stop carrying Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” beginning March 10.
The two shows’ exit is a big blow to Hulu as both Comedy Central programs attracted a lot of views for the three-year-old video-on-demand Web site. Hulu senior vice-president Andy Forssell said it was an unfortunate end for the partnership because “we’ve had very strong results for both Hulu and Comedy Central, in terms of the views and revenue we’ve generated.” Comedy Central said that the decision to end the tie-up was amicable. Hulu started showing the two programs in June 2008, helping establish the site as an important player on the video-on-demand market.
Viacom-owned Comedy Central will, however, continue to show full episodes of the two shows at its Web site.
