Conan O’Brien Shares Insights About the Late Night Show Issue and Jay Leno
In an interview excerpt of 60 Minutes released by CBS, late night show host Conan O’Brien shared his thoughts about his split with NBC and some opinions about Jay Leno.
He believes that he was not screwed as many people keep saying to him. He would always reply a line similar to “No, I didn’t. I didn’t get screwed. I’m – I’m fine. It just – it didn’t work out.” He really thinks that things just didn’t work out.
As for Leno, he said, “He went and took that show back…. and I think in a similar situation, if roles had been reversed, I know– I know me, I wouldn’t have done that.
Leno meanwhile said in an interview to Oprah Winfrey last January that he believe what happened to O’Brien was unfair but it was also unfair to put the blame on him. He said it was not his fault that O’Brien’s ratings were not good.
“It had nothing to do with me,” Leno said to Winfrey. “As I say, there is always someone waiting in the wings in this business to take your job. If you’re not doing the numbers, you move on. It’s that simple.”
