2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup: USA vs. Grenada

Hopes run high for the U.S. men’s national soccer team as it begins play in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The USA, fresh off a runner-up showing in the FIFA Confederations Cup, meets Grenada tonight at the Qwest Field Stadium in Seattle, Washington.

Head coach Bob Bradley named his 23-man roster June 25 but that has since been expanded to 30 players. This is not the same squad that reached the finals of the Confederations Cup last month. However, there will be a few familiar faces on the group as Bradley is including Charlie Davies, Freddy Adu, Heath Pearce and Luis Robles.

The match kicks-off at 9:00 p.m. ET.

UPDATE: Robbie Rogers scored one goal and set up two more as the United States opened its Gold Cup campaign with a 4-0 victory over Grenada. Freddy Adu scored the opening goal in the seventh minute and Stuart Holden doubled the lead in the 31st. Rogers scored in the 60th minute and Charlie Davies got the final goal in the 68th.

The U.S. moves onto RFK Stadium in Washington, DC to face early game winners Honduras on Wednesday.
