Soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo escaped injury after wrecking his Ferrari on the way to training on Thursday. His teammate Edwin van der Saar was driving behind him in his Bentley.

The front of his luxury sports car was crumpled in the crash and one of its wheels lay 200 yards behind the battered vehicle in a tunnel near Manchester airport.

Police Constable Nigel Snell, said: “Given the damage to the car it is fortunate the driver was not injured.

“We are trying to establish exactly what happened and I would appeal to anyone that may have witnessed the collision to contact police.”

No-one was injured and there were no other vehicles involved in the incident.
