Dad loses job, kills 5 children, wife then himself
A medical technician who had recently been laid off from an L.A. hospital fatally shot his wife and five young children— before taking his own life.
The bodies were found in a house in the south Los Angeles suburb of Wilmington.
Ervin Antonio Lupoe apparently called 911 and contacted a local television channel on Tuesday morning before committing suicide, authorities said.
The gunman called KABC 7 and then faxed through a letter saying he had lost his job and was going to kill himself, his wife and their five young children.
Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner said notes were found inside the house in which Lupoe talked of job-related issues. The letter said that an unnamed administrator told him one day that he shouldn’t have come to work and said “you should have blown your brains out.”
Ervin and his wife, Ana, were both former employees of Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center. “They were recently terminated,” a spokesman for the hospital group confirmed.
Kaiser officials said they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
KABC 7 has put a copy of Lupoe’s letter on its website.
