Dancing with the Obamas

michelle-obamaUnited States First Lady Michelle Obama has announced that a dance series will be held at the White House starting September 7.

The first one will be entitled The White House Dance Series: A Tribute to Judith Jamison. It will be held at the East Room at 5 PM ET.

Jamison is a former dancer and the outgoing artistic director, a post she held for 20 years, of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Performers who were invited are from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Billy from Billy Elliot the Musical, The Washington Ballet, the New York City Ballet and Super Cr3w, the winner of the second season of America’s Best Dance Crew. The featured dance forms are ballet, modern and contemporize, hip hop and Broadway.

Invited students from around the country will be invited to attend in a 90-minute workshop with the performers.

The office of the First Lady has not announced when and what are the themes for the next events in the series, if there are any.
