Daniel Craig Joins “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”
Swedish journalist Stieg Larsson‘s hit novel “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” the first of the Millennium Trilogy, is moving towards the realization of its English film adaptation as Sony Pictures confirmed that Daniel Craig has signed on to play the role of Mikael Blomkvist.
However, who will play the title character of genius hacker Lisbeth Salander remains a mystery. Reports said Emily Browning, Mia Wasikowska, Ellen Page, Sara Snook, Sophie Lowe, and Rooney Mara are among those who are in the running for the role played by Noomi Rapace in the Swedish film version of the thriller, which was released in the U.S. in March.
The English version of the film is targeted for a December 2011 release, with David Fincher of “Se7en,” “Fight Club,” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” as director.
Craig’s casting follows the temporary shelving of the latest “James Bond” film due to financial problems by film studio MGM.
Meanwhile, Amazon announced that Larsson, who died in 2004 a year before “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” was released, has become the first member of the Kindle Million Club. Amazon said Larsson has sold more than one million digital books, with all three novels of the Millennium Trilogy, including “The Girl Who Played with Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest,” in the top ten of its best-selling list.
